Browser Extension Privacy Policy

The short version: the extension only reads the page you explicitly ask it to save, and sends that to the ViMark desktop app on your own computer. Nothing is sent to us or to any third party.

What the extension does

When you click the ViMark toolbar icon or press its keyboard shortcut (⌘⇧S / Ctrl+Shift+S) on a page you want to save, the extension reads three pieces of information from the current tab only:

• The page URL
• The page title
• The page's favicon URL

It does not read the content of the page, your browsing history, or any other open tab. Capture only happens when you explicitly trigger it — the extension never runs in the background collecting data.

Where that data goes

The captured URL, title, and favicon are sent over Chrome's Native Messaging API directly to the ViMark desktop app running on the same machine. This is a local process-to-process connection — it does not go over the network, and it never reaches any server we or anyone else operates.

The desktop app stores your bookmark in a SQLite database in its local app data directory on your device. It is not uploaded, synced, or backed up to any cloud service.

Why the extension asks for each permission

• tabs — to read the URL, title, and favicon of the tab you're actively saving. The extension only ever reads the active tab in response to your click or keyboard shortcut.
• nativeMessaging — to send that captured data to the local desktop app, and to open tabs the desktop app launches on your behalf (e.g. jumping back to a saved bookmark).
• tabGroups — so bookmarks the desktop app reopens can be placed into an existing Chrome tab group, matching how you had them organized.

What we don't do

• No user accounts or sign-in
• No analytics, telemetry, or tracking in the extension
• No cookies set by the extension
• No advertising
• We never sell, rent, or share your data with any third party — we have no server that receives it in the first place

Your data, your control

Because everything stays on your device, deleting the ViMark desktop app's data directory (or uninstalling the app) removes your bookmark data. Removing the browser extension stops any future captures immediately — there's no account to close and no remote copy to request deletion of, because none exists.

Children's privacy

ViMark is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
