Privacy Policy
Last updated August 9, 2026
ViMark is a local-first bookmark manager. This policy covers the ViMark desktop app and the vimark.app website. The short version: there are no accounts, no cloud sync, and your bookmark data stays on your own device.
Looking for the browser extension's privacy policy specifically — permissions, native messaging, what it reads from a page? See the extension privacy policy.
The website (vimark.app)
This site is a static marketing page. It doesn't set cookies, run analytics, or use any tracking scripts. We only see what any web server sees in its access logs — standard request metadata like IP address and user agent — nothing more.
The desktop app
ViMark stores your bookmarks in a SQLite database in the app's local data directory on your device. There's no account, no sign-in, and no cloud sync — your data isn't uploaded or backed up to any server we operate.
The one network request the app makes on its own is a startup check against our download server to see if a newer version is available (the same way most desktop software checks for updates). That request doesn't carry any bookmark data or personal information — just a version number — though, like any web request, your IP address is visible to that server in the normal course of serving the request.
The browser extension
The extension captures a page's URL, title, and favicon only when you explicitly trigger it, and sends that directly to the desktop app on your own machine over Chrome's Native Messaging API — never over the network, never to us. For the full breakdown of what it reads and why each permission is requested, see the extension privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in
- No analytics, telemetry, or tracking
- No advertising
- We never sell, rent, or share your data with any third party
Your data, your control
Because everything stays on your device, deleting the ViMark desktop app's data directory (or uninstalling the app) removes your bookmark data. There's no account to close and no remote copy to request deletion of, because none exists.
Children's privacy
ViMark is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
